July 4th Safety Tips
July 4 is a fun time for celebrating with family and friends, but many dangers surround the holiday’s activities. First, fireworks!
- Fireworks and alcohol don’t mix!
- Only adults should light fireworks
- Keep buckets of water on hand
- Don’t stick you face over duds
- Light and run; and, finally
- Always wear closed toe shoes
Next, who doesn’t like a good burger or corn on the cob from the grill?! Grilling can also be dangerous.
- Check gas grill hoses for cracks, holes or leaks;
- Keep children away from grills;
- Never grill indoors, in a garage, or un any enclosed area;
- Keep the grill at least two feet away from decks, siding, branches, and anything that can catch fire quickly.
The 4th of July can be HOT in parts of the country. Be sure to practice heat safety by staying hydrated, slowing down, and spending some time indoors to cool off. That brings us to pool safety. Pools are a great way to cool off, but yet another holiday danger. Here are a few boating and swimming tips to keep you and yours safe this holiday:
- New consume alcohol while driving a boat;
- Before boating, always check that there are enough life preservers on hand for every passenger;
- Set water safety rules for your family, especially if there’s a young child; and
- Keep a first aid kit near the pool.
The Poppe Law Firm hopes everyone has a happy and safe July 4 holiday!
