Outdoor activities statistically less safe for men

March is Women’s History Month!  We thought it would be fun to look at some injury inducing activities and see if women or me are more frequently injured in those activities.  So, here goes!

Driving: From 1998 through 2007 a University of Michigan study found women drivers to be involved of 68.1% of all crashes.  Interestingly, men drive 60% of the time overall, while women only drive 40%.

Traffic Violations: Less than 30% of all traffic violations in the United States are given to women.

Boating: The most common type of accident is “boat on boat.”  Second, was a boat crashing into an object.  Men are way more likely to be operating a boat involved in a fatal incident – 98%!  And 91% of the victims are also male.

Drowning: Drowning victims are 66% male.

Firework injuries:  Males are three times for likely than females to the injured in this manner! Yikes!

As spring (and Women’s History Month) is upon us, be safe out there, ladies and gents!
