Court Orders Holiday Light Display Go Dark

In 1993 an Arkansas family began decorating their home for the holidays in a 3 million light display.  Neighbors sued to stop the display because it blew a transmitter, cutting power to the entire neighborhood, and caused too much traffic from spectators.  A local judge ordered the family to limit the lighting to certain hours of the day, and to only 15 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  The family appealed, and the case made it all the way to the United States Supreme Court.  The Court refused to halt Arkansas Supreme Court’s ruling requiring the display to be significantly limited.  In 1995 the display was purchased by Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.
