Class Action Lawsuit Alleges Kanye West Lied about Album Release
Kanye West is easily one of today’s most popular hip-hop artists. His most recent album, “The Life of Pablo,” has made headlines in a class action lawsuit.
Kanye originally claimed his album would be available only on Tidal, a music streaming service. Kanye made the announcement in a tweet stating, “My album will never be on Apple and it will never be for sale. You can only get it on Tidal.” While the album was initially only available on Tidal, it was later released on Kanye’s website, Apple Music, Spotify, and other music streaming services. The class action lawsuit claims over two million people subscribed to Tidal after Kanye’s tweet for the purpose of obtaining his new album. Fans believed they could only get the album on Tidal.
The class action lawsuit alleges fans were tricked into subscribing to Tidal. The attorney for the fans stated, “We fully support the right of artists to express themselves freely and creatively, however creative freedom is not a license to mislead the public. We believe that we will be able to prove to a jury that Mr. West and Tidal tricked millions of people into subscribing to their services and that they will ultimately be held accountable for what they did.”
