Lumber Liquidator’s Chinese Laminate Flooring Linked To Health & Safety Violation from Formaldehyde
Lumbar Liquidators is one of the fastest growing retailer of hard wood flooring in North America. They also sell over 100 million square feet per year of cheaper laminate hard wood flooring in the US as well. Recent testing revealed virtually all of the samples of Chinese manufactured Lumber Liquidators laminate flooring failed testing designed to determine whether it contained illegal amounts of formaldehyde. According to 60 Minutes, “The average level in Lumber Liquidators products that we found was over six to seven times above the state standard for formaldehyde. And we found some that were close to 20 times above the level that’s allowed to be sold.”
This is very concerning since Lumber Liquidators promotes all of its laminate flooring as complying with or exceeding the strictest standards for formaldehyde. In depth reporting by 60 minutes included traveling to China to interview employees at the factories who manufacture the Lumber Liquidators flooring. 60 Minutes reports the manager of the plant admitted the material was not formaldehyde compliant –despite its labeling.
